Luca Lupária Donati, an avvocato cassazionista (a lawyer authorised to practice before the Higher Courts), is Full Professor of Criminal Procedure at the University of Milan and previously held the position of Full Professor at the Roma Tre University in Rome.

In addition to Criminal Procedure, he has taught Comparative Criminal Procedure, Penitentiary Law, Corporate Criminal Law and Procedure, and Corporate Prosecution and Control Governance. He is a Visiting Professor and an Honorary Professor at several American and European universities. He has a degree in Law from the University of Milan (magna cum laude) and a doctorate (PhD) in Criminal Procedure from the University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum.

He has represented clients in judicial proceedings at the national and international level. His clients include some of the major Big Tech companies, multinational logistics groups, state-controlled companies, financial institutions, senior public officials, and directors and statutory auditors of leading enterprises. He has defended clients in high-profile proceedings relating to serious negligent crimes. He has gained extensive experience in cases relating to the victims of crime or breaches of fundamental rights.

Lupária Law Firm was founded by Professor Luca Lupária Donati and is headquartered in Milan, with offices also in Rome, Genoa and Paris.
It is highly specialised in general criminal law and has extensive expertise in the field of corporate criminal law. For over twenty years, the firm has provided legal defence and advisory services to senior executives, professionals, multinational corporations, and public authorities.

The Firm takes part in the panel “Criminalization of Women and Systemic Discrimination: New Challenges for the Innocence Network”, organized within The Innocence Network Conference, taking place on April 10–11, 2026. The event represents an important international forum addressing issues related to the criminalization of women and systemic discrimination within the criminal justice system.

Professor Lupária will deliver a lecture entitled “Interrogatorio y confésion. La experiencia italiana entre el caso di Amanda Knox y las nuevas amenazas tecnólogicas”, organized by the Fundació de l’Illustre Collegi d’Advocats de les Illes Balears (Palma). The event represents an important international forum addressing interrogation and confession in light of the Italian experience and emerging technological challenges.

The eighth edition of the “Codice sistematico di procedura penale”, edited by Professor Lupária together with Professors Belluta and Gialuz, has been released. The work is a key reference for scholars and practitioners.

Professor Lupária has published the essay “The Innocence Movement Revolution: History and New Frontiers”, included in the volume “Causes and Remedies for Wrongful Conviction: A Comparative Analysis” (Aranzadi, Madrid, 2026), focusing on recent developments in wrongful conviction review from a comparative perspective.

On March 20, Professor Lupária published an editorial in Corriere della Sera, on the eve of the referendum on the separation of judicial careers and the reform of the judicial system. The article represents an authoritative contribution to the public debate on key institutional issues.

The seventh edition of the Festival of Criminal Justice has been announced and will take place from May 14 to 17, 2026. Professor Luca Lupária serves as its Scientific Director.
